When to update your passport
Your passport must match the name on your flight tickets. If you've booked your honeymoon in your maiden name, fly first and update afterwards. If you've booked in your married name, you'll need the new passport in hand before you travel.
Cost and timing
HM Passport Office charges the standard renewal fee (currently £88.50 online, £100 by post). Standard turnaround is around 3 weeks but can be longer at peak times. A 1-week Fast Track service exists if you book an appointment in person.
What you need to send
- Completed online or paper application
- Your current passport
- Your original marriage certificate or a certified copy
- Two passport photos that meet HM Passport Office rules
Pre-marriage passport (PD2) — for honeymoons
If you want to fly straight from the wedding in your married name, you can apply for a passport in your married name up to 3 months before the wedding. It will be post-dated and only valid from your wedding day. Use the PD2 form, signed by your minister or registrar.
